OnePlus 6T, equipped with an On-Screen fingerprint sensor.
Ever wondered the OnePlus 6T is having a On Screen fingerprint sensor? Since the release of the only On-screen fingerprint sensor supported phone, the OPPO R17, a rumor dragged out ever since that time. Last week AndroidPolice has leaked a photo of the upcoming OnePlus 6T’s box which indicated a waterdrop notch and an on-display fingerprint sensor. And today Cnet has confirmed that OnePlus 6T will have an on-screen fingerprint. And this model will be the only OnePlus model to have this kind of technology.
OnePlus in an email to CNET that,
“We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action.” “By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.“
OnePlus also said that they were planned to implement this technology in the OnePlus 5T. But at that time they thought this tech wasn’t mature enough to meet the standard.
An On screen or In screen fingerprint sensor is a technology where the sensor is embedded underneath the touchscreen. When someone touches the particular part of the screen where the sensor lies, the sensor array burns some light to read your finger. Then the finger is read by the optical image sensor and AI processor. Only when the fingerprint matches, the phone unlocks.
And due to the under the screen optical image sensor, the OnePlus 6T is slightly thicker than 0.45 mm. There is no fingerprint sensor on the back now. That’s why OnePlus had to re-arrange the hardware. And OnePlus is saying that this design has brought out more unibody look to the phone.
